‘A Series of Unfortunate Events’ Season 2 Expected to Further Explore Mystery Behind VFD Secret Society, Begins with Baudelaires at Boarding School?

‘A Series of Unfortunate Events’ season 2 may not have been officially renewed on Netflix but is already expected to explore the mystery behind the VFD secret society further. It may begin with the Baudelaire orphans attending a boarding school considering that season 2 will cover author Daniel Handler’s next five books in his children’s novels series of the same name.

Following the successful run of the television adaptation of Handler’s novels, it would come as no surprise should Netflix renew for a second season. According to The Wrap, the new web television series has emerged as one of the most top-rated shows on the streaming service on its opening weekend as evidenced by ratings collected by Symphony Advanced Media.

The series was revealed to have been watched by 3.755 million adults in the 18-49 demographic on its three-day opening weekend and managed to pull higher viewership compared to fellow Netflix series ‘Luke Cage,’ which fell behind with 3.388 million viewers.

Although Netflix has not officially announced a second season, executive producer Barry Sonnenfeld previously revealed that season 2 is currently in the works. According to TV Series Finale, Sonnenfeld said, “We’re planning to do more, but we haven’t been greenlit to do more. But we already have scripts written for the second season. We have the stages on hold, so we’re optimistic.”

According to Express, the potential second season is expected to further explore the mystery behind the V.F.D. (Volunteer Fire Department), a secret society that goes to great lengths to conceal its heroic acts with codes and symbols. The Baudelaire children become increasingly involved with the V.F.D. following their encounter with the evil Count Olaf.

Handler, who also serves as executive producer for the series, revealed the plans for subsequent seasons. He said, “The second season is laid out to be 10 episodes for the next five books and the third season would be the rest of it.”

Should the television series follow the original novels’ chronological events, season 2 may open with the Baudelaires attending a dreary boarding school called the Prufrock Preparatory School, overseen by awful employees and overrun by rude children. There, they meet the Quagmire orphans who share the same depressing back story as them.

‘A Series of Unfortunate Events’ season 2 is yet to be renewed by Netflix. The series stars Emmy and Tony Award-winning actor Neil Patrick Harris as Count Olaf, Malina Weissman as Violet Baudelaire, and Louis Hynes as Klaus Baudelaire.
